Age of Vines: 25 years old
Grapes: 100% Tinto Fino
Village: Piñel de Arriba
Region: Castilla y León
Soil: Limestone soils with some clay in some parts of the plots
Production Methods: Careful hand selection from the best limestone areas of their “La Revilla” estate, with a small percentage from the clayey part. The harvesting is carried out carefully in small boxes. Aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, 50% new and a further 12 months in concrete tanks. Before going onto the market, it's further aged at least 12 months in the bottle.
Special Features: The essence of Gran Valtravieso is the terroir it comes from, the location and features of the moorland itself, its climate conditions and a selection of the best grapes from old vines. Parcels with higher limestone content and those with clay veins are vinified separately, with a small proportion of whole clusters incorporated into the latter depending on the vintage. The final blend is composed from the deepest and most refined barrels, selected to express the wine's distinctive character.
