  Map Maker
New Zealand
Ruud Maasdam came up with the name Map Maker for his New Zealand vineyard in homage to the creation of the country's first map and a tip to all the 'map makers' of this world. The vineyard is in the Southern Valleys of the Wairau Plains in Marlborough, where both the Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir grapes thrive on the old riverbed soils of clay and gravel. Each plot is selected for its suitability for the grape variety, and harvested and vinified separately. After fermentation the blends are created, to provide optimal flavour and balance, year on year. The Pinot noir is from 4 different Dijon clones from Burgundy that have taken to the territory with style and produce wines of elegance that cross the New World Old World divide.
