Winemaker of the Year 2023

Fourth generation growers Markus and Reinhard Waldschutz run their family vineyard in Strass-Elsarn, at the start of the Kamp Valley, one of Austria's finest wine-growing regions. The beauty of their vineyard and surrounds is represented in their stunning Grüner. A sommelier favourite for its ability to pair with a wide range of food, it's a true expression of the region and the terroir. Clay and alluvial soils across the valley slopes, and a maximum of 3 to 5 bunches per vine, give the fruit its distinct flavour. Three harvests are carried out by hand, on cool days only, in order to select only the very best grapes for vinification. Bottling takes place the following February, in order to maintan natural carbonic acid. The brothers are passionate, and dedicated to their craft and deserving winners of the Winemaker of the Year Trophy garnered in 2023.
