Hungary
What started as as a small cooperative in Hungary's Neszmely wine region, has grown into an important winery for the country, under the direction of winemaker Akos Kamocsay who quickly understood its potential. The region itself has more than two thousand years of history in winemaking, and many of the wine varieties we now associate with Europe, have a long history in Hungary. Pinot Grigio or Pinot Gris is one such grape variety. Known locally as Szürkebarát, there are various theories about its origin, but it's clear that it has been thriving as a varietal in the region for centuries.
