France
Managed by Sandra Combat, who worked initially alongside her father Pierre, the vineyard is entirely committed to sustainability, from reducing energy consumption in the chais to working parcel by parcel using low-intervention methods. Domaine des Combat covers 22 hectares, all of which are within a kilometre of the cellars and which comprise three distinct soil styles. Mercurol and the Chassis terraces are predominantly clay, overlaid with the large flat 'galet' stones that create warmth and light. The Coteaux des Pends enjoys a mix of sand and clay, or gravel and clay and benefits from excellent drainage, while on the higher grounds of Larnage, the loess which provides the perfect growing condition for the vineyards 3 hectares of white grapes. Crozes-Hermitage has a lightness of touch for a Rhone Valley wine, and Domaine des Combats combine elegance, harmony and a good degree of complexity in their vintages.
